Digital Storytelling

Under Shadows Demo – Thank You

Well, it has certainly been a long road.  But, at last, I passed my Master’s Defense and launched the final version of the Under Shadows Demo.  I’d like take a moment to thank all of those who supported me through this process.

My committee:
Dr. Dom Caristi – For taking up the role as my project advisor.  It is deeply appreciated.
Chris Flook – For being a friend and mentor throughout my entire Master’s experience.
Chris Marlow – For having an awesome idea to teach Landscape Architecture through game development and for all of your feedback.

A shout out to all the other faculty in the Digital Storytelling program.  It has been an immense pleasure working with you all.  I have learned so much.

The members of the forum at textadventures.co.uk who guided me through a variety of production issues.  A special thanks to Alex Warren for developing the Quest software.

My family and friends who have prayed for and supported me through this long process.

To my wife Lydia.  I love you so much and thank you from the bottom of my heart for bearing with me through this Master’s degree.  It means more than you know.

And lastly to God.  Without you, I have nothing and am nothing.  With you, I am everything I am supposed to be and have everything I am supposed to have.

Thank you for reading!  I’ll keep you posted on what’s coming next.

Veepry: Origins

Welcome Traveler!

You have arrived at the blog for Veepry Media.  Allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Caleb Eno.  Among many other things I am an aspiring video game designer and storyteller.  All my life I have enjoyed the process of creating and experiencing stories.  I read and wrote frequently as a boy and carried around backpacks full of notebooks where I scribbled all the things I was imagining.  Not much has changed in that respect, but I have grown a lot in my pursuit of excellent storytelling.  I am nearly finished with my Master’s Degree in Digital Storytelling at Ball State University.  During my time in school I have learned how to critically analyze stories and create compelling worlds.  I am most drawn to the interactive medium of video games.  Though I am still young in my experience with designing games, I have a deep love and passion for them.  It is my desire to work in the video game industry to create well crafted games with meaningful stories.

As I developed this dream, I wanted to create something that felt more official with which to brand my work, rather than just applying my name.  For this reason, I created Veepry Media.  The name and logo for Veepry Media was partially an accident.  I was painting with ink and I created this:

11 - Ink Village

The picture itself wasn’t brilliant but, in the top right corner, I randomly drew these three figures.  I liked how they came out and kept coming back to the design.  Eventually, I would call them the Veepry (pronounced Vee-pr-eye).  They are mythical dragon-like creatures that travel in packs of three.  They also symbolize the Christian concept of the Trinity.   This is the form they currently take:

In my pursuit of storytelling, I have had the opportunity to work on a number of different projects, both collaboratively and on my own.  If you wish to check out some of my work you can find it at veepry.com/projects.html.

My intention is for this blog to be a place where I can actively record the progress I am making on my projects.  Currently, I am completing a game called Under Shadows.  Under Shadows is a text-based adventure game which utilizes html, css, and javascript via the Quest 5 game engine.  This is serving as the final project for my Master’s studies, and I’m expecting to have a chunk of the game finished sometime in June for the defense of my project.  The most updated version of the game can be found at veepry.com/undershadows.html.

As this and future projects develop, I will be posting here with version information and updates.  Feel free to contact me via this blog or at veepry.com/contact.html if you ever have questions or have found a bug in a game.

Thanks for taking the time to check out Veepry Media.  I hope that I have the pleasure of meeting you someday.  Till then, have an excellent day!

Cheers!
Caleb Eno
